— Preface —

Four promises, in plain language.

I.

Never sold.

Your personal information is not sold to advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else. Not now. Not ever.

II.

You are in control.

You may access, correct, or permanently delete your data any time, straight from the app's settings.

III.

Written to be read.

This manual is intentionally plain. If a line is unclear, write to us — we will fix the line, not the lawyer.

IV.

Consent first.

Location, photos, and anything sensitive are only collected after you clearly say yes.

This manual is our honest account of the information Family collects, why, and what you may do about it. It is printed here — as on every page of the service — because we believe a privacy policy ought to be read, not hidden. Take a cup of tea to it. It will keep.

Our commitment to you

At FamilyApp, your privacy is a first principle. It sits at the centre of how we design and build the services you know, so you can trust them — and focus on building meaningful connections.

We appreciate that when you share your information with us, you are placing your trust in us. We do not take that lightly.

We do not compromise on your privacy. Every product, every feature, every new piece of the service is reviewed by people from legal, security, engineering, and product design, so that no decision is taken without respect for your privacy.

We strive to be transparent about how we process your data. We have written this Privacy Policy and its companion documents in plain language, because we actually want you to read them and understand our practices.

We work hard to keep your information secure. Dedicated teams review our security practices and invest continually in making your data safer.

On this document

Welcome to FamilyApp's Privacy Policy. Thank you for taking the time to read it.

We appreciate that you trust us with your information, and we intend to keep that trust. It begins with ensuring you understand what we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices you may make.

Where this Privacy Policy applies

This Privacy Policy applies to websites, apps, events, and other services operated by FamilyApp. For simplicity, we refer to these collectively as our "services". Some services may publish their own policy; where they do, that policy — not this one — applies.

In short: this document covers every part of Family, unless a specific page tells you otherwise.

What we collect

We cannot help you build meaningful connections without knowing a little about you — basic profile details, the sorts of people you hope to meet, a photograph or two.

Information you give us

You choose to give us certain information as you use the service. This includes:

Information we receive from others

Other members. Other members may provide information about you — for example, if they contact us regarding a concern about you.

Partners. We may receive information from partners, for example where FamilyApp ads are published on a partner's platform and details of the campaign's performance are shared back with us.

Information collected as you use the service

Usage information. We collect information about your activity — dates and times you log in, features you use, searches, clicks, referring pages, and how you interact with other members.

Device information. IP address, device ID, browser and operating system, time zones, advertising identifiers (Google's AAID, Apple's IDFA), cookies, and similar technologies; information about your wireless and mobile network; readings from device sensors such as accelerometers.

Other information, with your consent

If you grant permission, we may collect your precise geolocation (latitude and longitude) via GPS, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi. Collection may occur in the background where the permission you granted expressly allows it. If you decline, we will not collect it.

Similarly, if you consent, we may collect photos and videos you wish to publish on the service.

Cookies & similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies (web beacons, pixels) to recognise you and your devices. Our Cookie Policy explains why, and how you may control their use.

Most browsers offer a "Do Not Track" setting, but DNT signals are not yet uniform across the web, and — as is standard industry practice — we do not currently respond to them.

How we use your information

The main reason we use your information is to deliver and improve our services. We also use it to help keep you safe and to offer advertising that may interest you.

To run your account and provide the service

To help you connect with other members

To ensure a consistent experience across your devices

To offer you relevant offers and ads

To improve our services and build new ones

To prevent, detect, and fight fraud or other unlawful activity

To ensure legal compliance

The legal bases we rely on are: providing the service (performing our contract with you), legitimate interests, and your consent — which you may withdraw at any time.

How we share information

Because our purpose is to help you make meaningful connections, the chief way information is shared is with other members.

With other members

You share information with other members when you voluntarily disclose it on the service (your public profile, your posts). Please take care with what you share — assume it may be seen by any member.

With service providers and partners

We use third parties to help operate and improve the service — hosting, analytics, customer care, marketing, advertising, and security. All of them are under strict confidentiality obligations.

In corporate transactions

We may transfer your information if we are involved, in whole or in part, in a merger, acquisition, reorganisation, bankruptcy, or other change of ownership or control.

When required by law

We may disclose your information if reasonably necessary: (i) to comply with legal process; (ii) to assist in the prevention or detection of crime; or (iii) to protect the safety of any person.

To enforce legal rights

We may share information to mitigate liability in a lawsuit, to protect legal rights, to enforce agreements, or to investigate illegal activity.

With your consent

We may ask for your consent to share information with third parties. If we do, we will make clear why.

Crossing borders

Some of the sharing described above involves cross-border data transfers — to the United States and other jurisdictions. Where the service is offered in the European Economic Area, personal information is transferred outside the EEA. We rely on standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission, or other suitable safeguards, for such transfers.

Your rights

We want you to be in control. The service offers:

Applicable privacy laws may also give you the rights to:

For your protection and the protection of every member, we may ask you to verify your identity before answering such requests.

If you live in California

California residents may request a notice disclosing the categories of personal information shared with third parties for those third parties' direct marketing purposes during the preceding calendar year. Please allow thirty days for a response.

How we protect your information

We work hard to protect you against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of your personal information. As with every technology company, we take steps to secure information, but we do not promise — and you should not assume — that it will always remain secure.

We regularly monitor our systems for vulnerabilities and review our collection, storage, and processing practices to keep physical, technical, and organisational security measures current.

We may suspend your use of the service, without notice, if we suspect a breach of security. If you believe your account or information is no longer secure, please write to us at once.

How long we keep your information

We keep your personal information only as long as we need it for legitimate business purposes and as permitted by law. To protect the safety of every member, we apply a retention window of three months following account deletion — during which your account is no longer visible on the service, but remains retained.

In practice we delete or anonymise information upon account deletion (after the retention window) or after two continuous years of inactivity, unless:

  1. we must keep it to comply with applicable law;
  2. we must keep it to evidence our compliance with applicable law;
  3. there is an outstanding issue or claim requiring us to keep the information until it is resolved; or
  4. we must keep it for legitimate business interests, such as fraud prevention and member safety.

A note on children

Our services are restricted to users who are 18 or older. We do not permit users under 18 on our platform, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you suspect a member is under 18, please use the reporting tools within the service.

When this document changes

Because we are always looking for new ways to help you build meaningful connections, this policy will change from time to time. We will give you notice before any material changes take effect, so you have time to read them.
